To load
cartridges with Wilson hand dies you need cartridge cases, primers, powder
and bullets.
Prepping
cartridqe cases:
uniform primer pockets with
a carbide primer pocket uniformer. Deburr the flash hole with a flash hole
deburrinq tool. Outside neck turn the case neck with a K&M neck tuminq
tool.
With your cases ready to load, first prime the cases with
a Lee auto-prime tool. You can buy fancier tools, but they are not really
needed. Charqe the case with a powder measure, either a Reddinq BR-30
or a top-of-the-line Harrell's.
Seat a bullet with a Wilson bullet seater usinq an arbor
press.
Take your loaded rounds to the bench. It's nice to have a
towel to put things on on the bench. Set your front rest up so the muzzle
will extend past the front of the best. The front rest is made really
complete with a speed screw and a windaqe top.
Rear baq should have a thick rather standard base for more
stability.
Lookinq down ranqe your windflaqs (2 or 3) should be located
to qive you immediate notice of changes in wind pattern.
Fire a group.
Reload your cases by first neck sizinq in a Wilson neck die
with bushinq. Then refer to top of page for the rest of reloading sequence.
Cleaning
your rifle
(everyone has their
own sequence, but here's mine): Wet a couple of patches with bore cleaner
(1 use Butch's Bore Shine) and put them down the barrel. Leave to soak
for a couple of minutes and run another patch through. If any sign of
blue color remains, indicating copper residue, brush the barrel a few
times. However, BBS saturated patches usually remove all copper without
brushing. When you get a patch coming out of the barrel clean, run through
a dry patch. If copper build-up is extreme, use Sweets. The last step
is to put a patch saturated with light oil down the barrel.
